Looplist

AI-powered social shopping platform, concept through public launch

Director of Product Design · 2018

Context

Looplist set out to build a social-first, low-friction shopping platform: a personalized AI and machine-learning recommendation engine delivered through a highly visual, interactive mobile app where people could find, share, collect, like, and purchase products, and discover things nearby. The company had the concept and the CEO and COO driving it. It didn't yet have a design function, a product strategy translated into an actual interface, or anyone who'd taken the idea from concept to something buildable.

Contribution

As Director of Product Design, worked directly alongside the CEO and COO to establish and lead product strategy, then conceptualized, prototyped, designed, and oversaw development of the native mobile app.

Built the design function from scratch and managed a team of three senior contract designers, presenting design vision and product strategy directly to seed and angel investors, and driving cross-functional delivery from concept through public launch across both native mobile and web.

Outcome

A consumer product combining AI recommendations, social wishlists, and location-based discovery, taken from concept through public launch with a design function and team built from nothing to support it.
